Project Overview

In New Delhi, a premium immersive technology center required a central exhibit: a large-scale projection surface approximately 16.5 m wide and 2.7 m high, curved in a horseshoe (or U-shape). The goal was to provide a fully immersive experience: visitors inside the curve needed to see a single, continuous panorama without visible seams, brightness variations, or distortions at the bends.

To achieve this, four projectors were installed around the perimeter of the curved screen and combined using a single built-in edge-blending processor, model BIT-EPF-104. The system operates on the principle of "one input signal – four perfectly aligned output streams"; neither a PC, an operating system, nor an operator is required.

Task

Creating a perfect image on a curved surface using multiple projectors is a much more complex task than projecting onto a flat wall. The project involved solving four main challenges:
· Complex curved geometry: The horseshoe-shaped screen meant that each projector was aimed at the surface at its own angle, which would inevitably distort and misalign a flat image on the curve.

· 24/7 unattended operation: In a public showroom, PC failures, loading delays, or the need for daily reboots are unacceptable – the system must operate continuously.
· Neat and compact installation: Space in the AV rack was limited, so a silent device with passive cooling was required, one that would not generate additional heat or noise in the visitor area.

Decision

The BIT-EPF-104 is an embedded processor for projection image stitching, built on a "one input - four output" architecture. The device receives a signal from a single video source and performs all the operations necessary to transform four separate projections into a single, seamless curved image:
· Geometric correction for each output — the image of each projector is individually deformed for precise alignment with the corresponding section of the curved screen.
· Edge blending — overlap zones are smoothly combined, eliminating visible seams and ensuring uniform brightness across the entire screen width (54 feet / ~16.5 m).
· Color and black level equalization — projector adjustment to ensure homogeneous color tone along the entire length of the curved surface.
